Gifted Rating Scale (GRS)

Gifted Rating Scale (GRS)

Ages: 4 years to 16 years, 11 months.

Information: The Gifted Rating Scales are used to identify gifted children. The Scales are norm-referenced rating scales based on current theories of giftedness and guidelines regarding the definition of gifted and talented students. The professional conducting the assessment can gather information from the child’s teachers using the Preschool Form or the School Form.

Preschool and kindergarten teachers complete the Preschool form for children aged 4 to 6 years, 11 months. This form covers the five domains:

  • Intellectual.
  • Academic Readiness.
  • Motivation.
  • Creativity.
  • Artistic Talent.

Teachers complete six brief scales on the school age Form to evaluate children between 6 years to 13years, 11 months who are in Years 1–8. The six domains include:

  • Intellectual.
  • Academic.
  • Motivation.
  • Creativity.
  • Leadership.
  • Artistic talent

Features and benefits: Both forms provide a standardised method for identifying children for gifted and talented programs based on teacher observation, as well as identification of relative strengths and specific areas of giftedness. They also both provide specific behavioural guidelines for identification of giftedness within each domain.
